With all this talk of croissants, one of my readers suggested that I try making my own from scratch. Um… no. First of all I think it’s too much work. Plus, just imagine all the clean up that would be involved afterwards. I hate cleaning. Second, do I really want to know how much butter I’m consuming? My guess is probably not.
Okay, so I do know that it’s not that easy to hop on a plain and get to Paris for some croissants (when are they going to build a teleporter already?), and maybe you don’t live that close to a Pret a Manger, but here is somthing everyone can do. It is so easy, and there are a billion variations on what you can do to customise your flavours. Yes, it may not be très authentique, but few things are as fantastic as fresh baked carbs.
All you really need are some Pillsbury crescent rolls. That being said, for some reason, they are terribly difficult to find here in the UK. I found mine at a Tesco Extra, but you really have to search for them. God, I so miss all those awesome Pillsbury products. Especially the Cinnabon ones and the flaky dinner biscuits. I totally gorge on them when ever I go to America to visit my parents.
To make the ones pictured above, you will only need some Pillsbury crescent rolls and vanilla sugar. All you do is coat one side of the triangle in a layer of vanilla sugar before rolling it up into the croissant shape. I also dusted some extra sugar on top. Simply bake them according to package instructions. It’s as easy as that. Oh, and by the way, there will be some tips on making your own vanilla sugar in my next blog entry (along with some other things I’ve learned along the way… which is, not much LOL).
Here are some other thoughts I had about what you can use to really pimp out some store bought croissant dough:
Sugar and crushed cardamom seeds
Sugar and crushed lavender buds
Sugar and cinnamon
Crushed almonds and marzipan
Honey and crushed almonds
Chocolate chips
Coconut
Your favorite pesto
How would you pimp your croissant?
