With pride of place in the place de la Madeleine, Fauchon stands out like a beacon. A glorious hot pink and black foodie beacon, you can’t miss it. At Fauchon you can buy loads of goodies: sweets, baked goods, chocolate, deli items, jams and spices… you name it! When it comes to value for money, the price tags here should read, “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it” … in a snooty French accent of course! As you well know, this has never been a hinderance to Mr P and I. In fact, a price tag such as this, would only make Mr P pick up a bigger shopping basket.
Well, one one day we decided to have lunch at Fauchon’s “boulangerie.” It’s a little place where you can get sandwiches and salads, drinks and little pastries to eat in or take away. But trust me, you have never seen a “take-away” like this. Everything is gold, even the plastic forks and knives.
And this is where we had probably the most expensive “take-away” (or it could be called “take-away your money” or “boulangerie a la highway robbery”)that we have ever eaten! I think the bill was a bit over 70 Euros. Still, I can’t say it wasn’t fun.
Here are some of the goodies that we scarfed down:
Hubbykins had a tuna sandwich. I think it was something ridiculous like 12 Euros (I can’t recall). Of course, he declared it to be the best tuna sandwich evaaaaaa! And you know what, it was pretty awesome. I might have to agree with him.
I’ll bet you never saw anything like this in a sandwich shop before. This is a savoury salmon millefleur. And rather than the dividing sections being made of bread, they are made of puff pastry. I have never eaten anything like it before. It was truly a little work of art. Here you have layers of smoked salmon, puff pastry, and cream cheese with dill. On the sides, the pastry is studded with beautiful green pistachios. It was more of a thing if beauty than a taste sensation though (what can I say, I’m totally a bagel girl). It was very nice, but hard to eat because once you tried to have a go at it with your fork, it kind of fell apart. Oh well, certainly a thing worth trying.

We also shared this little salad with potatoes, sea scallops, and tarragon. Check out how its packaged in a diamond!
For desert we chose a tarte au citron, and a tarte au chocolat. Both were very nice. The tart shells were especially excellent. They were extremely crisp and buttery.
We also tried an eclair. Fauchon is famous for their artistry when it comes to eclairs. Please check out this link and prepare to be amazed. Eclair making geniuses must certainty be at work day and night here to create these beauties. Personally, eclairs are really not my favorite patisserie, but when they look like these, how can you not try one?

Nope, still not a favourite, but certainly a beauty to behold!
I think they should make an eclair shaped like an arm, and another one shaped like a leg, just to remind you of what it costs to eat there
. But, even though we were totally robbed, it was way fun! Oh, and of course Mr P was quite amused.
