Ah, daaahlings, just got back from Paris and there’s so much to show and tell. My next several posts will be all about my Parisian adventures. First we shall start with my plane ride, because you see, something special happened on the flight (no, I did not join the Mile High Club, how naughty of you!). Hubby made me a goodie box full of yummy treats to eat on the way to Paris!!! This kind of thing does not happen every day. Hubby doesn’t “make” anything, except money
. That is why I consider this gesture a sort of love letter written in food, and that is why I had to share it with you.

Let me explain the premiss behind this. Mr P is quite a fan of the Hannibal Lecter character from the movie the Silence of the Lambs. Hannibal is a cannibal and a psychopath (while Hubby is just a bit “unusual”), but he is also known for his discernment and fine taste. In an airplane scene, Hannibal brings his own Dean & Deluca goodie box on board, as he can not lower himself to eat the horrid airplane food (altought this lunchbox does have a bite or two of brain–how did that get through customs?). Hubby was both fascinated and impressed, and I think if at that time you offered him brain on an overpriced cracker, he would have gladly accepted.
Now fast forward several years, Hubby put together my very own in flight meal!!! How cool is that??? In it, he put my favorite goodies of all time: Laduree coconut macaroons (a seasonal flavour that may actually be more delicious than the pistachio *gasp*). There were also little French cheeses, some goodies from Fortnum & Mason (delicious dried figs, Genteleman’s relish–okay, maybe that one was for him lol, and a selection of rosemary and olive crackers). Let’s also not forget some incredible Daylesford Organic honey in a teeny little pot, and a package of fruits and nuts. Ooooh it was goooooooooooood. It was surely a far cry from the wretched and overpriced excuses for sandwiches that were available for purchase. Cheese and tomato anyone?
But the thing is, Hannibal had all of his food treasures in a lovely black box. Hubby wanted to make me a box too. Guess what he did??? After much research Mr P discovered G. Ryder & Co., stationers to the Queen of England herself (and now, Moi), and had them make me a box to his own specifications. I am told that it was super expensive, but in order that I don’t freak out, the price will never be revealed to me. It is now sitting here on my desk, and I will treasure it forever
.
Wow, what a good start, and I haven’t even gotten to Paris yet! I have sooooooo much to tell you, so be sure to check back.
