The restaurant I chose to eat at this week is a place I have been to before. Gourmet Burger Kitchen is all over the UK, and I am glad of that, because its such a cool place to eat. You will love it if like me, you love big, fun food!
Here’s what I ate:
A most fabulous Oreo milkshake. This is amazing. Probably the best milkshake that you can get in the UK. Its very American style in its presentation. It comes in a tall silver glass and they give you a regular cup to decant the milkshake into. The milkshake is deliciously thick, sweet, and icy cold, because its made with ice cream. It is absolute nectar! Definitely one of the stars in the GBK show!
For starters I had these little chicken dipper thingys. They were tender pieces of white meat chicken, covered in some kind of bread crumb batter and fried. That came with a sweet chilli dipping sauce. Excellent.
I had chunky fries… of course. Yummy, but I can’t say they are really different from the fries you get anywhere else. However I got it with some fantastic garlic mayonnaise which really makes the fries special (and gives you bad breath for a while after you leave, not like I care… breathe me in baby!).
I had coleslaw. This was probably the only downer to my little piggy feast. It did have a nice fresh taste, but I wasn’t into it. I was hoping for more of the traditional style coleslaw, you know what I’m talking about, the one with mayonaise!
This one lacked any creamy factor. Instead it was made with some kind of vinaigrette.
The main event was my chicken burger. I had a chicken and avacado “burger” (really a sandwich), with a slice of cheddar cheese. Yummy. Like all burgers/sandwiches at GBK it was really huge and full of color. All the burgers/sandwiches at GBK are so monstrous that they have wooden skewers in them when they serve it to you, in order to keep the colossus from tumbling. You cant help but smile and be impressed (and ever so slightly embarassed) by its size. You feel like you should be fluttering your eyelashes at your companinion and coyly announcing, “Oh no, I couldn’t possibly.” But I am sure you can guess that it was eaten with reckless abandon.
GBK doesn’t serve deserts. Its a shame.
If you think you might like to try GBK, I highly recommend it. If you go to their website, there are always some kind of offers. Dumb bunny that I am, I actually had a coupon: buy one burger and get one free, but I forgot to give it. Sometimes I become so enamoured by food and the anticipation of eating, that I forget myself!
